How does a Final Drive work?
A final drive works by receiving power from the hydraulic motor or the travel motor. The travel motor receives fluid from the excavator’s hydraulic pump which is then sent to the final drive as power which the final drive turns into torque. The torque produced by the final drive is transferred to the vehicles sprocket which then turns the wheels or the tracks of the vehicle.
Common Issues of Final Drives
There are several common faults that can occur with your final drive, one of these is the seals have become loose or damaged. You can tell if a seal is damaged or loose when the vehicles gear oil or hydraulic fluid starts to leak.
Another issue that will occur with final drives are the main bearings can begin to fail and break. You can recognise when thus problem is occurring when the vehicle starts to give out excessive noise or vibration.
